AVON, Ohio – The Fairmont State baseball team (9-25, 8-12) went 1-3 in its series versus Notre Dame College (9-23) the past weekend at MercyHealth Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

Game 1 – NDC 3, Fairmont State 2
Â
In game one, Fairmont State scored one run in the third inning after
Quintin Reep grounded out into a double play and scored
Noah Canterbury. Fairmont State took a 2-0 lead on a base hit by
Connor Bailey to score Canterbury. NDC took the lead after scoring three in the bottom of the fifth. Fairmont State was held scoreless in the last two innings and NDC won game one, 3-2.

Noah Canterbury both finished with two hits. Canterbury had the lone extra-base hit for Fairmont State with a double.
Ben Taylor threw 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball and struck out one.
Evan McDade pitched 2.1 innings and allowed three runs.

Game Two – NDC 2, Fairmont State 1 (8 inn.)
In game two, Notre Dame (Ohio) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Alex Tennant singled to center field to plate
Cade Sikoski to tie the game at one in the fifth. The pitcher's dual featured a 1-1 tie after seven innings and the game had to move into extra innings.
Logan McClure pitched seven innings of one run baseball and punched out six NDC hitters to keep his team in the game. NDC scored the game-winning run on an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth.

Tennant finished with a pair of hits and had the RBI for FSU. Bailey, Canterbury and Sikoski added hits.

Game Three – Fairmont State 11, NDC 2
In game three, Fairmont State won 11-2 and scored six unanswered runs. Fairmont State scored a pair in the first inning when
Alex Tennant tripled to right field to score Bailey. Canterbury reached on an error and drove in Tennant to complete the two-run inning.
Vince Sabatino scored
Brett Haskins in the second inning on a sacrifice fly and Reep doubled down the left field line to score
Ryan Goff and Fairmont State led 4-0 after three innings. FSU plated two in the fourth following an RBI singles from Canterbury and Armstrong. After NDC scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, Fairmont State put the game out of reach in the sixth inning with five runs. Sabatino scored on a wild pitch and Armstrong increased his RBI count to three with a two-RBI single to make the score 9-1. Reep hit his second extra-base hit with a triple and Amstrong scored. Haskins singled to short and Reep crossed the plate for the 11th run of the game. FSU went on to win 11-2 in game three. In game three,
Connor Cramer pitched 5.0 innings and struck out three to earn his fourth win of the season.
Gordon Swiger completed two innings and struck out three hitters.

Game 4 – NDC 4, Fairmont State 3
Fairmont State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after an error by NDC. Notre Dame College tied the game at one in the fourth inning. The Fairmont State offense responded with two runs in the fifth inning after an NDC error and an RBI single by Amrstrong. NDC crept within one run in the fifth inning after an RBI single. Fairmont State was held scoreless in the sixth and seventh and led by one run heading into the bottom of the seventh. NDC rallied and hit a two-run base hit to win the series and game four, 4-3.

Sabatino and Armstrong had two hits apiece in the series finale, with Sabatino hitting a triple. Sikoski hit a double as part of the Fairmont State offensive production.
Jacob Young was sharp in his outing, striking out seven batters and allowing just one earned run in 4.2 innings.
