WHEELING, W. Va. – The Fairmont State baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Wheeling on Friday (April 21) at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex in Wheeling.

Game One – Wheeling 11, Fairmont State 6
Fairmont State scored three in the first inning from a pair of sacrifice flies from
Alex Tennant and
Noah Canterbury.
Noah Armstrong singled to left field with two outs and scored
Vince Sabatino to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Falcons. Wheeling scored two in the second and four in the third to claim a 6-3 lead after three.
Ryan Goff doubled to left center to rack up two RBIs and score
Connor Bailey and isaac Miller. Wheeling went on to score five unanswered runs and seized a six-run cushion after six innings of play. Miller singled to the shortstop and scored Canterbury in the last inning. Wheeling won game one, 11-6.
Bailey, Goff, Canterbury,
Alex Perez, Armstrong and Miller all finished with two hits. Goff led the way with two RBIs while Canterbury, Armstrong, Miller and Tennant all chipped in one. Goff, Canterbury and Miller all had one double.
Connor Cramer struck out a trio of batters in five innings of work.
Game Two – Wheeling 7, Fairmont State 6
The Falcons posted six runs in the third inning after six hits and one error made by Wheeling. Bailey drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly. Goff, Tennant and Canterbury all followed with RBI singles and the Falcons led 4-0. Sabatino scored on a fielder's choice, and Armstrong knocked an RBI hit to complete the six-run inning for the Falcons. The Cardinals scored three in the fourth inning to trim the Falcons' lead in half. Wheeling scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth and led 7-6 after six innings. Wheeling held Fairmont State scoreless in the seventh and took game two, 7-6.
Seven different Falcons all had hits in the second game. Bailey, Goff, Tennant, Canterbury, Armstrong and Perez all had RBIs in the second leg of the doubleheader.
Logan McClure struck out five batters in 4.1 innings of work.
