FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State softball team (30-18, 20-8 in Mountain East Conference Play) concluded its home regular season slate with a sweep over Wheeling (7-39, 5-23) on Sunday (April 23) at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, W.Va.

Game One – Fairmont State 2, Wheeling 1
Caitlyn Kassay registered her first strikeout on the second out in the top of the first inning and induced a groundout to hold the Cards scoreless in the first.
Myaih Cloud led off the second inning with a walk and
Judeah Morris pinch ran for Cloud and stole her 24
th base of the season. After a
Courtney Moyer sacrifice bunt,
Alexa Andrews belted her fifth triple of the season to score Morris and get Fairmont State on the board.
Abbie Keilholz ripped a sacrifice fly to left and scored Andrews to put the Fighting Falcons in the lead, 2-0.

Wheeling scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to trim the Falcons' lead to one run. Kassay sat the Cardinals down in order in the sixth inning and finished the inning with a punchout. Wheeling managed to hit a single with one out in the seventh inning and moved the tying run to second base with two outs. Kassay recorded a groundout to hold the Cards to one run and give her team the 2-1 win.

Fairmont State totaled two hits in the opener with the triple from Andrews and a base hit from Kassay. Kassay reached base two times and drew a walk. The senior from Fairview, W.Va. tossed three strikeouts and allowed just one walk and one run in her final outing at Duvall-Rosier Field.

Game Two – Fairmont State 5, Wheeling 4
The Cardinals scratched across a run in the first inning on a bunt. After
Katy Darnell's second hit of the game, she stole second base and was moved to third by
Hannah Workman in the third inning.
Peyton Wetherholt drove Darnell in to tie the game on an RBI groundout and the score was even at one run after three innings.

Wheeling regained the lead in the fourth inning on a two-out base hit and extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Workman reached first base on an infield single. Wetherholt smoked a double to the right center field wall and Workman wheeled around to score. Cloud singled to left field on a line drive and drove in Wetherholt to tie the game at 3-3.
Wheeling hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to go back in front, 4-3. Andrews led the bottom off the sixth with a ground rule double to left field. Keilholz followed with a double and the Falcons had runners at second and third with no outs.
Ally Maddy scored Andrews on a sacrifice fly and tied the game, 4-4. Darnell reached on a Wheeling error and Keilholz scored the go-ahead run. Maddy recorded the final three outs of the seventh inning and the Falcons secured the sweep with a 5-4 win.

Darnell and Keilholz both finished with multiple hits. Wetherholt finished with two RBIs while Cloud and Maddy each had one.
Shelby Reed pitched 4.1 innings and struck out one batter. Maddy recorded her second win of the season and allowed one run in 2.2 innings while registering a strikeout.
