TROUTVILLE, Va. – The Fairmont State softball team's Mountain East Conference Tournament run came to an end on Saturday (May 6) following losses to Davis & Elkins and Charleston at the Botetourt Sports Complex in Troutville, Va.

Davis & Elkins 14, Fairmont State 5 (5 inn.)
With two outs in the bottom of the first inning,
Courtney Moyer singled through the right side and scored
Katy Darnell to put the Falcons in the lead early. Davis & Elkins capitalized on four Fairmont State errors in the second inning and scored seven runs. The Falcons clawed back into the game after plating four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Abbie Keilholz singled to start the inning and
Mackenzie Maddy followed with an infield hit. After a
Caitlyn Kassay hit, Darnell singled with the bases loaded and trimmed the D&E lead to four. With two outs, Moyer drove in two runs and Darnell and Riggs scored to make it a 7-5 game.

The Senators tallied a run in the third to go ahead 8-5. Fairmont State went down 1-2-3 in the third and after three D&E held a three-run lead. The Senators offense registered six runs in the top of the fourth inning and D&E stretched the lead to nine. The Falcons were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings and D&E secured the win after five innings.

Darnell,
Hannah Workman and Moyer all had two hits and Moyer and Darnell combined to hit five RBIs. Keilholz,
Mackenzie Maddy and Kassay each finished with one hit.
Olivia Hylton tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and did not allow a hit in her relief outing.

Charleston 10, Fairmont State 5
Workman and Wetherholt both singled in the first inning, but the Golden Eagles held Fairmont State off the scoreboard. UC totaled three runs in the bottom of the first inning. With one out in the top of the third, Darnell and Workman hit consecutive singles and Riggs drew a walk to load the bases. Wetherholt hit a sharp line drive that was caught by the UC third baseman, who turned an inning-ending double play to keep the Falcons scoreless. Charleston rode the momentum and scored four runs in the third and led 7-0 after three.

Alexa Andrews singled with one out in the fourth inning and stole second base.
Brianna McKenzie singled to score Andrews to put the Falcons on the board. UC added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and led 9-1. Fairmont State staved off the spread after Riggs powered a double to left field and Wetherholt singled to make the score 9-3. Keilholz hit an RBI groundout that scored Wetherholt to put Fairmont State within five. UC scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and led 10-4 after five. The Falcons plated a run in the seventh after McKenzie drove in her second run of the game, but the Falcons' rally came short and UC advanced to the MEC Championship.

Workman went 3-for-3 at the plate and added a walk and a run scored. Darnell, Wetherholt and Moyer all finished with multi-hit games. McKenzie chipped in two RBIs and Keilholz, Wetherholt and Riggs all had one. Kassay threw two scoreless innings and struck out one.
