Women's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season Play with a Win

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's volleyball team faced the Bobcats of Frostburg State University to conclude the regular season. The Falcons were able to top the Bobcats in four sets, 25-23, 25-23, 12-25 and 25-18.

Baylie Ostvig led the Falcons with 13 kills as Joey Borelle and Josie Nobbe each finished in the double digits with 12 and 10, respectively. Borelle added 16 digs to her total with another 21 from Josie Skinn.

The first set began with both teams exchanging runs as the lead bounced back-and-forth between the two squads. As Frostburg State led 16-14, the Falcons went on a 5-0 run with two kills by Baylie Ostvig to grasp a 19-16 lead. After the two matched each other over the next few points, the Bobcats evened the set at 22 and 23. However, back-to-back kills by Joey Borelle and Ostvig clinched the set win.

Similar to the first, the second set saw both teams battle over the lead. Down 15-12, the Bobcats tied the score at 16 with a 4-1 stretch. The Falcons responded with 5-2 run to regain a three-point advantage (21-18). Fairmont State maintained the lead and after a Natalie Zemba kill, the team was just one point from winning the set. Frostburg State won the next two points to apply a little pressure but Zemba delivered another strong attack to win the set, 25-23.

In the third set was controlled from start to finish by the Bobcats. The visitors were able to easily win the set, 25-12 and force the match to a fourth set.

Fairmont State opened the fourth with five-straight points but Frostburg State answered with the next four. However, the Falcons did not flinch and scored nine of the next 11 points to go in front, 14-6. The Bobcats slowly chipped at the difference and narrowed the gap to five but that was the closest the visitors got to the lead. Fairmont State held off Frostburg State as Ostvig sent home the final point of the set (25-18) and the match (3-10).

Fairmont State will be the three-seed out of the North Division and will the second-seeded Charleston in the quarterfinals of the MEC Tournament on Thursday, November 21 in Institute, West Viriginia. Match time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
