FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's volleyball team battled Salem University in the final non-conference match of the season. The Falcons were able to ease their way to a 3-0 win over the Tigers.
Joey Borelle led Fairmont State with 16 kills as she finished the match with a hitting percentage of .438.
Josie Nobbe also had a strong night for the team with 11 kills and a .625 hitting percentage.
Kelsie Dangerfield totaled 22 assists while
Josie Skinn had 14 digs.
In the first set, Fairmont State was able to slowly take the lead, 9-5. Salem quickly answered with a 7-0 run to jump in front, 12-9. The Falcons remained a couple of points behind until they used a 9-1 run to regain the lead, 23-17. A service error by the Tigers with a kill from
Gabi Smith capped off the set win for FSU, 25-19.
The second set was a strong set for the Falcons as they quickly jumped out to a 7-2 advantage. Both teams exchanged points before Fairmont State won 10-straight points with four kills coming off the hand of
Chloe McDaniel. Leading 19-5, the home squad was able to cruise to a 25-8 set win.
Carrying momentum over into the third, FSU won the opening five points. Salem battled back and narrowed the margin to one (9-8) before the Falcons rattled off eight-straight with two kills each from Borelle and Nobbe. The Tigers claimed the next three points but like before, the home side answered with the next five points to extend the lead back to double digits (22-11). The Falcons were able comfortable win the set, 25-15 and the match, 3-0.
Fairmont State (17-11) hits the road on Thursday, November 7 as it faces West Liberty University. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
