FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University men's basketball faced Glenville State University in a mid-week Mountain East Conference matchup. The Falcons jumped out to a 25-point advantage at the half as they cruised to a 106-81 win.
David Jolinder set the pace for the Falcons with 21 points.
Andre Harris added 16 points with eight rebounds. From the bench,
CJ Little scored 14 points with 12 points coming off the hand of
Tyheil Peterson.
Glenville State (4-5, 1-3) opened the game with consecutive threes to garner a six-point lead.
Taj Thweatt and
Tommy Williams answered with threes of their own followed by a Thweatt layup to put Fairmont State (8-0, 5-0) ahead by two (8-6) with just under three minutes eclipsed in the half.
The Pioneers reclaimed the lead with another three but the Falcons started to take control of the game. FSU scored 11-straight points with six of them coming from beyond the arc to hold a 19-9 lead. GSU attempted to narrow the gap but were unable to do so as Fairmont State grew its advantage with a three by
Rudy Fitzgibbons made it a 17-point game (33-16) with 7:25 left in the half.
Glenville State cut the difference down to 13 (35-22) with just under five minutes on the clock but Falcons held a firm grasp on the lead. Over the final four minutes of play in the first half, FSU scored 14 of the final 17 points and led by 25 (49-24) at the break. During the final run by the Falcons,
CJ Little drove the lane through three different defenders and slammed the ball home that got all of Joe Retton Arena on its feet.
In the second half, the two teams went up-and-down the court, matching each other with various baskets and free throws. Fairmont State was able to extend the lead to 31 points at a moment but as the everything settled by the final horn, the home side stayed in front by the 25-point difference. Over the final 20 minutes of action, both teams scored 57 points each.Â
The Falcons were able to force 15 turnovers and turned them into 26 points. On the glass, the home side won the battle 39 to 26 while also scoring 25 second chance points.
Fairmont State ventures south to battle Concord University on Sunday, December 15 in Athens, West Virginia. Start time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
