NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Fairmont State University women's basketball team wrapped up first half to season against Walsh University.
Leslie Huffman scored a career-high 30 points en route to an 82-55 win.
Leslie Huffman also went 11-19 from the field while going 4-5 from behind the arc.
Alyssa DeAngelo and
Aaliyah Brunny each scored 13 points on the afternoon. Overall, 10 different Falcons found the bottom of the net.
The early advantage was traded between the two teams before Fairmont State (9-3) took control of the game. The Falcons went on a 17-2 run to hold a 14-point lead (21-7) with 2:30 left in the first. During the stretch,
Leslie Huffman scored 10 of the points. Walsh (6-5) hit a three before two
Leila Jones free throws closed out the first period with FSU leading 23-10.
Fairmont State maintained its lead in the second period as
Aaliyah Brunny scored four-consecutive points to grow the lead to 18 (30-12). The Cavaliers notched the next four points but the Falcons held the double-digit lead. When the halftime horn sounded, FSU led 38-19 going into the locker room.
In the third period, the squads went matched each other before the Falcons used a 13-2 run to push the lead to 28 (58-30) with 2:11 on the clock. Walsh scored six of the final eight points with Fairmont State leading 60-36 going into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
The Cavaliers tried to cut into the deficit but the Falcons had an answer every time down the court. By the end of the game, FSU won by the 27-point margin.
In the paint, the Falcons scored 40 points as the bench contributed 29 points. The defense forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 31 points.
Fairmont State will be off for the Christmas and New Year's break and return to the Joe Retton Arena to face Wheeling University on Wednesday, January 8. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
