FSU Trounces Notre Dame

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University women's basketball team faced Notre Dame College in a Mountain East matchup. After a slow start, the home side pulled away with 11 different scores, 92-64.

Katy Darnell led the Falcons with 25 points and six assists. For the game, she went 10-15 from the field including two three-point makes. 

It took a little over a minute and a half for Notre Dame (8-18, 5-14) to score the first basket of the game. The visitors led 4-2 before Fairmont State (21-5, 14-4) found its offensive footing. The Falcons scored 14-unanswered points before NDC added a layup. Darnell made a basket in the paint to close out the first period with FSU leading 18-6.

The second period had a similar start to the first until Fairmont State rattled off 10 points to lead, 30-20 with 5:31 left in the half. Notre Dame responded with an 8-0 run of its own before the home side began to expand its advantage. By the time the halftime horn had sounded, the Falcons led by 21 (45-24).

Notre Dame had its best performance in the third as the two teams went back-and-forth. The visitors won the period by five (27-22) but trailed 67-51 going to the final 10 minutes of regulation. 

Fairmont State put its final stamp on the game as it started the fourth with a 12-0 stretch. The two teams were even for the remainder of the quarter as the Falcons were victorious by 28.

Alyssa DeAngelo joined Darnell in the 20-point club with 21. The team scored 24 points off turnovers and 21 on the fast break.

Fairmont State will face West Virginia Wesleyan on the road on Wednesday, February 28. Start time at 5:30 p.m.
