Strong Second Half Hands Men's Basketball Home Win

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University men's basketball team welcomed the Pioneers of Glenville State. After trailing at halftime, the Falcons outscored the visitors by 18 for the 92-82 win.

Tommy Williams hit the opening three but it was Glenville State (10-10, 6-7) whom seemed to grasp early control. Fairmont State (15-5, 8-5) did not let the opposing team grow its advantage too much as Tyheil Peterson evened the score at 15.

The Pioneers regained the lead and stretched it to eight (25-17) with 10:18 on the clock. The Falcons were able narrow the margin to four (36-32) but the visiting squad kept edge and led 49-41 at the half.

Glenville State maintained its lead until the home side cut into it and evened the game at 60 off a Cameron Whiteside layup. The visiting side went back in front but a three from Whiteside gave Fairmont State its first lead (69-68) since the 15:54-mark of the first.

Every time the Falcons tried to expand the lead, the Pioneers answered until Williams buried a three followed by layup of his own in transition. Leading 85-79, the home side made crucial free throws down the stretch, going 7-8 to secure the 10-point win.

Williams led all scorers with 25 points, going 6-6 from the line. Zyon Dobbs and Whiteside both finished with 19 points. David Jolinder added 14 points while Seth Younkin grabbed 15 rebounds.

Faimront State welcomes the Golden Eagles of Charleston on Wednesday, February 7. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
