Falcons Hit Century Mark in Senior Day Win

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University men's basketball team welcomed Frostburg State University for the final regular season game of the year. The Falcons offense did not let up as it cruised to a 107-62 victory.

Prior to the game, Fairmont State honored its three seniors: Zyon Dobbs, Cameron Whiteside and Seth Younkin.

Fairmont State won the opening tip and quickly went to work as Cameron Whiteside lobbed a pass inside as David Jolinder paid it off by laying it in for the opening score. Frostburg State did not let it deter it as the team scored the next five points. Tommy Williams stopped the stretch with a three to even it at five just over three minutes into the game.

The Bobcats dropped in the next four points before Tyheil Peterson scored seven-straight to give the Falcons the lead back, 12-9. After a bit of back-and-forth, Fairmont State started to take control of the game as Jolinder cut back door and slammed home a pass from Whiteside to lead 32-22 with 4:23 on the clock.

With the double-digit lead, the Falcons did not backed off as it closed the half on a 9-2 run as Zyon Dobbs beat the halftime horn with a floater in the paint. As the teams headed for their locker rooms, Fairmont State led 41-26.

Both teams jostled for the first half of the second 20 minutes until the three ball start falling for the Falcons. Over a six-minute stretch, the hosts poured in 27 points compared to just four for the visitors. From that point, Fairmont State shifted into cruise control and went on to win by the 45-point margin.

Jolinder led all scorers with 23 points as Peterson added 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Falcons shot 51.9-percent (40-77) from the field with 37 points from the bench.

Fairmont State (21-7, 13-7) earned the fifth-seed in the Mountain East Conference Championship and will face fourth-seeded West Virginia State on Friday, March 8 from WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. Start time is slated for 8:30 p.m.
