Fairmont State Continues Lift-A-Thon

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State strength & conditioning program and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Adam Kolberg have finalized the schedule for the spring portion of the 2023-24 Fighting Falcons Lift-a-Thon Fundraiser.

The first portion of the Lift-a-Thon, involving the spring sports, took place in the fall from November 14-17. All remaining fall and winter sport student-athletes will participate in the competition between April 22-24.

During the Lift-a-Thon, student-athletes will be performing a one-rep max on back squat and bench press. The total amount of weight lifted will be recorded and donation amounts will be calculated based on the total weight lifted. More information about the event is described below and a link to the donation page can be accessed here.

What are teams?
To further drive-up competition and camaraderie across all student-athletes, we will be combining student-athletes into two teams: Maroon and White.

The MAROON team will consist of student-athletes from the following teams: Acrobatics & Tumbling, Cross Country, Football, Men's Basketball, Softball and Volleyball.

The WHITE team will consist of student-athletes from the following teams: Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Swim, Tennis, Wrestling and Women's Basketball.

The winning team will be determined by averaging the total amount of weight lifted per number of student-athletes on each team. 50,000 lbs. / 150 student-athletes = 333 lbs.

How does a Lift-a-Thon raise money?
Sponsors will support student-athletes by choosing to donate in one of two ways:
  • First, each sponsor can support by donating a specific monetary amount per total pounds lifted. For example, if the sponsor pledges $0.10 per pound and the student-athlete lifts a total of 550 pounds, the sponsor would donate $55. On average, we expect most male student-athletes to lift between 400 and 700 lbs. Most female student-athletes will lift between 200 and 400 lbs.
  • Alternatively, sponsors can support by donating a flat amount. The sponsor can choose to support the student-athlete by donating a flat amount ($50, $75, $100, etc.) regardless of the amount of weight lifted.
What will the money be used for?
All the money raised will be put towards enhancing the training experience for ALL student-athletes.

This year's enhancements will include the addition of four ANCORE PRO functional trainers, allowing us to have one attached to all eight squat racks. We also plan to replace some of our older barbells, medicine balls and dumbbells. By making these upgrades we can continue to provide student-athletes with the highest levels of performance training.

This event will showcase the hard work and commitment that all student-athletes have put into this academic year while also raising money for enhancements to the Fairmont State Strength & Conditioning Department. We are hopeful that we can have a 100% sponsorship rate for each student-athlete.
