FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is commencing its inaugural One Week, One Wish event from Monday, October 20 through Saturday, October 25.
During the 2024-25 academic year, Fairmont State's SAAC executive leadership committee along with their member's set out an ambitious goal to raise $10,000 to donate to Make-A-Wish America, which would fully fund one child's wish. Through various fund raising efforts along with a matching donation from Elior Collegiate Dining, formerly known as Aladdin Campus Dining, the group raised $20,748.67. With that amount, the group is granting two wishes to children.Â
The amount raised during last year's campaign was one of two schools in all of NCAA Division II to raise $20,000-plus with Augustana located in South Dakota.Â
During this week, the group will be conducting its One Week, One Wish with the goal of raising enough money to grant another wish in the future. Fairmont State's SAAC will hosting various events on campus throughout the week ranging from a Bake Sale to a Call-A-Thon in efforts to raise $10,000. The week will culminate on Saturday, when the group will be granting a wish during Fairmont State's football game on Saturday, October 25 against the University of Charleston.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committe is granting the wish of Ryan, a 14-year old boy from right here in Fairmont. Ryan suffers from Congential Heart disease and his wish is to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise. He is also a big football fan and on Saturday, Ryan will get to spend the day with the Fairmont State football team as well as enjoy the game against Charleston. At halftime of the game, Fairmont State's SAAC will present the wish to Ryan and his family.Â
Later in the year, the group will grant another wish with more details to come in the future.
