FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont St. (2-0, 0-0 MEC) edged past Edinboro (0-2, 0-0 PSAC) with an 82-75 victory at Joe Retton Arena on Saturday night. The Falcons capitalized on the Fighting Scots' turnovers, scoring 18 points off them while also adding 34 points from the bench.
Fairmont State opened the half with a layup by
Miguel Martinez, assisted by
Rene Diop, establishing an early rhythm. Despite a series of turnovers, the Falcons rallied with a pair of 3-pointers by Martinez, the second on a fast break, to take the lead at 12:32.
The half saw several lead changes, with Fairmont State capitalizing on points in the paint, highlighted by
Drey Carter's tip-in at 11:36. As the half progressed,
Tyheil Peterson contributed crucial free throws, maintaining Fairmont State's competitive edge.
In the closing minutes, the Falcons' defense struggled to contain Edinboro's Rowan Carmichael, who hit a 3-pointer at 3:42 to briefly shift the lead. Carter's 3-pointer at 2:21 kept the score tight, but Fairmont State ended the half trailing by one point, 33-32.
Fairmont State started the second half by trading baskets with the Fighting Scots, with
Rene Diop scoring the first field goal for the home team.
Miguel Martinez then tied the game with a 3-pointer, which was quickly followed by two free throws from
Drey Carter to give the Falcons the lead. Fairmont State maintained momentum through a series of fast breaks and defensive stops, extending their lead with baskets from Martinez and

Tyheil Peterson and

Martinez led the Falcons with 21 points, connecting on four 3-pointers and securing seven rebounds. Peterson contributed 14 points, flawlessly making eight free throws and adding four rebounds. Diop bolstered the defense with three blocks while scoring nine points.
Jaidyn West effectively disrupted the opposing offense, recording two steals and providing two assists.
