AMHERST, N.Y. — Fairmont State University fell to Daemen University 75-63 at Lumsden Gymnasium. Despite leading by two at halftime, Fairmont State was unable to contain Daemen's second-half surge, which was highlighted by 46 points.
Fairmont State commenced the first half with a strong start, highlighted by
Miguel Martinez's 3-pointer at 19:17, assisted by
Drey Carter, to initiate the scoring. Following this,
CJ Meredith added another 3-pointer, assisted by
David Jolinder, pushing the early lead to 6–0. Despite turnovers and missed shots, the Falcons maintained momentum through defensive efforts, including blocks by Meredith and Carter.
As the half progressed, the Falcons continued to find success in the paint, with
Rene Diop and Martinez contributing key baskets. Martinez's scoring prowess was evident with a layup at 6:37, extending the lead. The Wildcats rallied to tie the game at 29 with a free throw by Justin Hemphill at 00:33. However, Jolinder's jumper with five seconds left ensured the Falcons closed the half ahead 31–29.
Fairmont State started the second half strong with
David Jolinder scoring a jumper and a layup to extend the lead to 35-29. However, the Wildcats quickly responded, narrowing the gap with fast-break points, ultimately taking the lead at 39-37 by 15:16. A 3-pointer from
Joey Brown at 13:24 briefly swung the momentum back to the Falcons, pushing them ahead 43-39.
Despite maintaining a back-and-forth battle, the Falcons faced difficulties as the Wildcats capitalized on turnovers and extended their advantage to 56-50 by 6:56. Fairmont State managed to keep within striking distance with a dunk from Jolinder and persistent free-throw shooting but couldn't overcome the Wildcats' consistent scoring. The game concluded with the Falcons trailing 75-63, as the Wildcats outscored them 46-32 in the second half.
David Jolinder scored 18 points and recorded two steals, leading the scoring efforts for the Falcons.
Joey Brown added 11 points, converting six of seven free throws and also collecting four rebounds.
Miguel Martinez contributed with 13 points and seven rebounds, while also matching the team high with two steals.
Tyheil Peterson recorded four points and three assists, contributing defensively with two steals.
Fairmont State (2-1) returns to Joe Retton Arena on Saturday, November 22 to face Slippery Rock University. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
