Falcons Fall to Crimson Hawks on the Road

INDIANA, Pa. — Fairmont State (4-1) fell to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (5-0), 97-53, as they were outscored 33-12 in the third quarter at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.

The game commenced with Fairmont State's Leslie Huffman converting a technical free throw, giving them an early lead. The Falcons capitalized on defensive pressure with Zaniya Murray's steal leading to a subsequent foul that allowed her to extend the lead to 3-0. Leila Jones contributed with a three-pointer, pushing the Falcons ahead 6-2. Despite a strong start, Indiana (PA) responded, tying the game multiple times before taking a 15-9 lead.

Fairmont State made efforts to close the gap with Gabby Reep's three-pointer and Huffman's timely basket, bringing them within three points. However, the Crimson Hawks maintained their lead, closing the quarter ahead 18-14.

Fairmont State briefly cut into the Crimson Hawks' lead with a 3-pointer by Haylen Cook assisted by Reep at 9:46. However, Indiana (PA) responded with a series of successful plays, pulling ahead significantly. Despite Reep's efforts, including a late 3-pointer at the buzzer, Fairmont State trailed 46–31 at the end of the quarter.

The Falcons faced challenges in the third quarter as they were outscored by Indiana (PA) 33–12. Despite efforts by Alanna Tate, who contributed early with two free throws and a layup, the Falcons struggled to find offensive rhythm. The Crimson Hawks capitalized on their opportunities, particularly in the paint, expanding their lead significantly. The third ended with Indiana (PA) ahead, 79–43.

The Falcons struggled to find rhythm in the fourth quarter, with a highlight being Mackenzie Swayne's fast-break layup and subsequent free throw at 6:01, narrowing the deficit momentarily. The Crimson Hawks maintained control, leveraging their advantage in points in the paint and free throws to extend their lead. The game concluded with Indiana (PA) securing a 97-53 victory over the Falcons.

Reep scored 15 points and added two assists, making 5 of her 10 shots, including three 3-pointers. Cook recorded four steals and contributed five points. Huffman converted all five of her free throw attempts and finished with eight points, while also recording three total rebounds. Tate added eight points and collected three defensive rebounds.

Fairmont State returns to Joe Retton Arena on Sunday, November 30 to face Shepherd University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
