FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State dominated Waynesburg with a commanding 120-54 victory at Joe Retton Arena. Fairmont State surged to a 74-35 halftime lead, propelled by a strong shooting performance, including 18 three-pointers.
Fairmont State opened the game assertively, with
Drey Carter leading the charge in the paint, contributing early baskets to set the tone. The team capitalized on turnovers, converting 11 steals into transition opportunities, which bolstered their scoring efforts. By utilizing strong defensive rebounding and efficient ball movement, the Falcons secured a significant advantage.
The home team maintained control throughout the half, benefiting from balanced scoring that included 12 three-pointers. The consistent offensive pressure led to a commanding lead, as the Falcons closed the half with a substantial 74–35 edge over the Yellow Jackets.
The second half began with Fairmont State quickly expanding their lead, as
CJ Meredith converted a dunk and a 3-pointer within the first two minutes.
Miguel Martinez added a fast-break dunk followed by a 3-pointer, further increasing the momentum. The Falcons' defensive efforts were highlighted by
David Jolinder's block and
Joey Brown's steals, which led to additional scoring opportunities.
The Falcons maintained control through effective shooting and solid rebounding, with Martinez and
Rene Diop contributing key baskets.

Carter led Fairmont State with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting and added eight rebounds. Diop also posted 18 points, efficiently converting 9 of 10 field goals, while securing 10 rebounds. Jolinder contributed with 11 points, three 3-pointers, and dished out nine assists. Brown recorded 11 points, collected four rebounds, and made three steals.
Fairmont State (9-2) returns to Mountain East Conference play on Saturday, January 3 at the University of Charleston. Game time from state capital is set for 4:00 p.m.
