GLENVILLE, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University men's basketball team looked to bounce back on the road against Glenville State University. After being tied at halftime, the Falcons outscored the Pioneers by 17 on the way to an 87-70 win.
David Jolinder and
Sam Emich led the Falcons with 18 point each. Jolinder was 7-13 from the field while Emich was 5-6 from behind the arc.
Andre Harris added 14 points with another 12 points from
Rudy Fitzgibbons.
Early in the first half, Glenville State (10-10, 5-8) held a slim lead until Fairmont State (17-3, 11-2) went on a 10-2 run to lead 21-15 with 11:34 left in the first half. The Pioneers climbed back into the game and evened the score at 28.
The two squads started to go back-and-forth as they matched each other on the offensive end. Over the final seven minutes, both teams scored 16 points as the game was all square at 44 going into the halftime locker room.
In the second half, the Falcons came out and outscored the Pioneers by six in the opening three minutes to lead 55-49. Glenville State then went on a 10-0 run over the next two-plus minutes to grasp a 59-55 advantage.
Fairmont State quickly responded with 13 of the next 15 points to go back in front by seven (68-61) with 11:08 left in regulation. During the stretch, both
Sam Emich and
David Jolinder scored four points. The Pioneers tried to slow down the Falcons but were unsuccessful as the visitors expanded the lead to 76-63.
The hosts cut the deficit to 10 with just over two minutes to go but down the stretch, FSU made its free throws to secure the 17-point win. In the paint, the Falcons scored 32 points while the bench added 36.
Fairmont State will venture to Charleston, West Virginia to battle the Golden Eagles on Wednesday, February 5. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
