Falcons Historic Season Comes To An End

NEWARK, Del. -- The Fairmont State University baseball played with a chance to keep its NCAA Championship stay alive against East Stroudsburg University. Unfortunately, the Falcons historic season came to an end as they fell to the Warriors, 6-2.

In the first inning, East Stroudsburg captured the early lead with a two-RBI double to right center. The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the second with runners on first and second but were unable to bring home a run.

The Warriors added to their lead in the third with a sacrifice fly to left field. ESU extended its lead in the fifth with a two-run homer over the right center wall. Fairmont State got on the board in the bottom part of the fifth when Cameron Moore scored on a single off the bat of Quintin Smith. 

East Stroudsburg maintained the 5-1 advantage until the top of the eighth when it scored one more run on a single to right field.

As the game ventured to the bottom of the ninth, the Falcons looked to keep the game going. Zach Brennan led off with a double to right center followed by two walks and outs occurred.

Ryan Goff stepped in the box and hit a high chopper to third that allowed Brennan to score and keep the bases loaded. Smith was the next batter and with 2-2 count, lifted a ball high into left field that fell just in front of the wall for the final out of the game.

Fairmont State finishes the season 28-28 while going 17-11 in conference play. The team also notched the program's first NCAA Regional appearance and victory.
