SALEM, Va. -- The Fairmont State University took on the University of Charleston for a spot in the MEC Tournament Championship. The Falcons fell the to Golden Eagles, 3-0.
Neither team was able to get anything going offensively in the first inning. In the top of the second, Charleston was able to work the bases loaded but a ground ball ended the threat.
Once again, both pitchers found a rhythm by not letting a runner in scoring position over the next three innings. In the sixth, both squads were able to get base runners but were unable to break the scoreless tie.
In the seventh, the Golden Eagles broke the tie with a two-RBI double to left center followed by an RBI single to lead 3-0. Fairmont State had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, the Falcons were unable to bring home a run and fell, 3-0.
Fairmont State now awaits to see if it will be selected for the Atlantic Regional which will be revealed on Monday, May 5.
