SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Fairmont State had an impressive showing on day two of the Rattler Invitational, sweeping Texas A&M International University 26-24, 25-19, 25-19, before achieving a victory against St. Mary's (TX) in four sets, 13-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 on Saturday at Bill Greehey Arena. Against Texas A&M International, the Falcons recorded a remarkable .314 hitting percentage and 48 kills, while also capitalizing on the Dustdevils' reception errors. After dropping the first set against St. Mary's, the Falcons showcased their resilience with 61 kills and 86 digs.
Against Texas A&M International, Fairmont edged out the Dustdevils in a tightly contested first set, with Dangerfield assisting Borelle for a critical point at 25-24. Despite the Dustdevils' attempts to close the gap, Fairmont maintained their lead to win 26-24.
In the second set, the Falcons established an early 3-0 lead with consecutive kills from Borelle,
McKenzi Martin, and Zemba. Despite a brief rally from Texas A&M International, Fairmont's efficient team play led them to a 25-19 win, capped by a decisive kill from Borelle.
The third set featured Fairmont overcoming an early deficit to tie at 8-8, fueled by Dangerfield's assists. The Falcons executed a pivotal 5-0 run, including a service ace by Martin, and Borelle's final kill secured a 25-19 victory, showcasing their commanding play throughout the match.
In the match against St. Mary's,
Joey Borelle made an immediate impact, securing the first point with a kill assisted by
Kelsie Dangerfield. Despite a strong start from Fairmont State, they faced challenges as Alyssa Koehl led the Rattlers to a 16-8 lead. The Falcons managed to narrow the gap with contributions from
