FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State (11-3, 6-2 MEC) defeated West Virginia State (5-7, 2-4 MEC), 84-66, at Joe Retton Arena, capitalizing on 21 points off turnovers.
The game commenced with Fairmont State establishing control early through a series of defensive plays, capitalizing on turnovers by West Virginia State. A pivotal moment occurred when
Gabby Reep converted a layup off a fast break with 6:31 remaining, pushing the Falcons into the lead. Despite the visiting team's attempts to regain momentum, the Falcons extended their advantage with strong performances at the free-throw line, including
Haylen Cook's two successful free throws at 3:45. The quarter concluded with the Falcons leading 25–14 after a late layup and free throw by Reep.
Fairmont State took control in the second quarter with a strong start, highlighted by
