#19 Fairmont State Drops First Match of the Season

FROSTBURG, Md. — The 19th-ranked Fairmont State women's soccer (14-1-3, 12-1-3) lost to Frostburg State (14-2-2, 13-1-2) 1-0 Wednesday at Bobcat Stadium. The Falcons finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on goal but were held scoreless.

The Falcons trailed 1-0 at halftime after the Bobcats scored in the 13th minute, despite the Falcons taking seven shots and forcing five saves. Earlier in the first half, Sam Yuen put a shot on frame in the fourth minute and the Falcons followed with a corner kick, giving the visitors early attacking activity before the Bobcats' Cassidy Paige scored from Rayiah Davis at 12:49.

The Falcons responded with saved attempts from Arrington Sparks and Yuen, and Olivia Johnston kept the margin at one with a save on Madison Hinton in the 21st minute. The half grew physical through the middle stages, but the Falcons continued to create chances, including Yuen's saved shot at 22:07, Dahlia Welter's saved attempt at 30:47 and late shots from Emelly Chicas and Valentina Gianinetto before going into the break down 1-0.

At the start of the second half, Dayra Dinarte put a shot on frame at 48:59 and the Falcons earned a corner less than 30 seconds later, while Johnston later saved Ainsley Wilson's shot at 75:32 to keep the Bobcats from adding on.

The half turned physical from 67:06 to 76:12, with six fouls/cards combined, including Falcons fouls on Payton Parliament and Gianinetto and Bobcats yellow cards to Kelly Dougherty and the team. The Falcons came out of that stretch with consecutive attempts from Braylyn Sparks and Parliament, but Mia Graff saved Parliament's shot at 76:50 and the Bobcats held the margin to the finish.

Fairmont State finishes the regular season second in the MEC North Division. The Falcons will host an MEC Quarterfinal match on Sunday, November 1 against West Virginia Wesleyan College. Match time is still to be determined.
