Men's Basketball Overcomes Halftime Deficit for Win

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State (16-3, 10-2 MEC) defeated Glenville State (12-8, 7-6 MEC) 101-86 at Joe Retton Arena. The Falcons trailed by 11 at halftime but surged with a 67-point second half, including 17 three-pointers.

Fairmont State began the first half with a strong effort, quickly responding to early Glenville State baskets. Drey Carter's assist to Rene Diop's layup at 19:05 marked Fairmont State's entry into the scoring, followed by a 3-pointer from Tyheil Peterson, which brought the score to 6–5. The Falcons continued to maintain pressure, with David Jolinder sinking another 3-pointer at 17:41 to briefly take the lead.

Despite the Falcons' efforts, including a balanced distribution of scoring with assists from CJ Meredith and Peterson, the Pioneers capitalized on turnovers and fast breaks to pull ahead. The Falcons managed to stay competitive with contributions from Joey Brown and Miguel Martinez, yet faced challenges on the boards against Glenville State's strong rebounding.

The half concluded with Fairmont State trailing 45–34, after a late 3-pointer by Meredith with just 10 seconds on the clock, keeping the game within reach entering the next half.

The Falcons opened the second half with a determined offensive push, narrowing the gap with key 3-pointers from Peterson and Jolinder. Carter contributed with a crucial tip-in, and Diop added a defensive block to halt the Pioneers' momentum. The home team maintained pressure, closing the gap to within three points midway through the half.

Fairmont State took control in the latter half, executing a series of successful plays, including a 3-pointer by Meredith and a dunk by Diop, to extend their lead. Their defensive efforts were highlighted by Brown's steal and an assist from Carter. The half ended with the Falcons outscoring the Pioneers 67-41, concluding the game with a 101-86 victory.

Jolinder scored 20 points, converting six of seven from beyond the arc. Meredith tallied 22 points, hitting four 3-pointers and making 6 of 7 free throws, while also collecting five rebounds. Diop added 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting and blocked four shots. Carter contributed with seven rebounds and five assists.
