GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Fairmont State University had a strong showing at the 2026 Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championships including Colton Stoneking repeating as champion at 141.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Stoneking faced Khyvon Grace from West Liberty in the semifinals. After a back-and-forth bout, Stoneking was able to prevail 3-2 after tiebreaker-1.
Advancing to the championship match, Stoneking was setup against the number-ranked 141-pound wrestler, Ethan Hardy of Glenville State. The two met earlier this season at the Midwest Classic where Hardy got the upperhand. In the latest installment of these two, the match came down to the closing seconds with Hardy leading 2-1. With just five seconds left, Stoneking was able to secure a takedown to win 4-2 and win bavk-to-back titles. Stoneking was also named the MEC Most Outstanding Wrestler trophy for the second straight year, as voted by the league's head coaches.
Trace Ragland (133), Josh Woyan (174) and Cooper Durst (184) each earned third-place finishes. Jojo High took fourth at 125 pounds, and it was a productive day for the Falcons in the upper weights as Shane Hatfield (149), Cole Turner (165) and Tyler Wise (285) all finished fifth. Jake Stephenson rounded out the Fairmont State placers with a sixth-place finish at 197 pounds.

Fairmont State returns to the mat on Thursday, February 5 as it will face Washington & Jefferson College at Waynesburg Central High School in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
