FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State (18-5, 12-4 MEC) defeated Wheeling (12-11, 7-8 MEC), 68-60, at Joe Retton Arena, overcoming an early 11-point deficit with a strong second-half performance. The Falcons capitalized on turnovers, scoring 16 points off the Cardinals' 16 turnovers.

Zaniya Murray scoring an early layup for Fairmont State to take a brief lead. Despite the strong start, the Falcons faced challenges in maintaining momentum, as Wheeling capitalized with a series of successful plays, including a 3-pointer by Graci Fairman and a layup by Elena Marin Dawid. Struggles from the field were evident for the Falcons, connecting on only 2 of 15 attempts.
Alanna Tate contributed late free throws, but the Falcons trailed 18–7 at the end of the first quarter.
Fairmont State gained momentum in the second quarter with a strong inside presence, scoring 10 points in the paint. Tate and
Hadley Horne each contributed early with important tip-ins, cutting into Wheeling's lead.
Gabby Reep then added a layup at 7:26, narrowing the deficit.
Leila Jones hit a key 3-pointer with 2:24 remaining, bringing the Falcons within one point. However, the Cardinals managed to maintain their lead, finishing the quarter ahead, 26-22.
Fairmont State shifted momentum in the third quarter with a critical sequence beginning at 7:33, where Reep hit a fastbreak 3-pointer to tie the score at 29. This play initiated a significant run, as the Falcons scored efficiently in the paint, highlighted by layups from Reep and Murray. The home team capitalized on its defensive rebounds and minimal turnovers to extend its lead. The Falcons concluded the quarter with a 49-42 lead over the Cardinals.
Fairmont State secured their victory in the fourth quarter with a strong offensive performance. Reep initiated an early scoring drive with a layup, assisted by Tate, at 9:09, increasing their lead. The home team maintained control with a series of successful plays, including a three-pointer by Tate at 7:16 and consistent free throw shooting. Despite the Cardinals' attempts to close the gap with four three-pointers, the Falcons preserved their lead. The game concluded with a final score of 68–60 in favor of Fairmont State.
Reep scored 21 points and recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds. Murray added 12 points with three steals. Jones contributed 16 points, efficiently converting 6 of 13 from the field. Tate also tallied 16 points with two steals and seven rebounds.
