WILSON, N.C. — Fairmont State (3-1) had a day of mixed results at Jeffries Field on Saturday, beginning with a decisive 9-0 victory over West Chester (0-3) in the morning, followed by a 4-2 loss to Barton (5-3) in the afternoon.
**Game 1 Overview:**
Fairmont State's offense shone brightly against West Chester, highlighted by a third-inning surge that propelled the Falcons to a commanding 9-0 win. The Falcons amassed 15 hits, with their scoring starting in the first inning due to a fielding error that allowed
Gabby Bibb to score an unearned run after a single by
Alexa Foresha, putting Fairmont State ahead 1-0.
The third inning began with singles by
Avery Townsend and Foresha, leading to an RBI single from
Breonna Marietta.
Jaylin McGill followed with a double, scoring another run before reaching home on a wild pitch.
Paige Matteson extended the lead with a sacrifice fly, and the inning concluded with the Falcons leading 7-0.
In the fourth inning,
Sydney Emanuel doubled, and
Carly Crowder launched a two-run homer to left field, bringing the score to 9-0. Fairmont State's defense was unyielding, allowing no runs from the Golden Rams, resulting in a five-inning shutout.
Delaney Haller pitched 3 2/3 innings, surrendering no earned runs on three hits, with one strikeout and one walk.

**Game 2 Overview:**
In the afternoon matchup against Barton, Fairmont State found themselves in a tough position early on, trailing 3-0 after the first inning due to a fielding error that allowed Barton to capitalize, including a two-RBI triple from Madison Mercer.
Fairmont State began to rally in the fourth inning.
Breonna Marietta led off with a single, followed by
Jaylin McGill's single that advanced her to third. A sacrifice fly from
Paige Matteson allowed McGill to score, narrowing the gap to 4-1.
Continuing their fight in the sixth inning, Marietta registered another single, and McGill hit a double, allowing Marietta to score on Matteson's subsequent RBI single. Despite the efforts, Fairmont State couldn't close the gap further, and the game ended with a final score of 4-2.
Caitlin Morey pitched two innings, giving up four runs on three hits, including two earned runs, while striking out one.
Micah Wilson provided strong relief over 3 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and one walk, striking out two without conceding any runs. Marietta finished with three hits, including a double and one run scored. Matteson drove in two runs and added a hit, while McGill recorded two hits, a double, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Fairmont State returns to North Carolina on Saturday, February 21 as it faces Catawba College and the University of North Georgia. First game is set for 10:00 a.m. followed by another at 12:30 p.m.
