PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Fairmont State (21-4, 15-3 MEC) secured a 75-62 victory over Point Park (7-16, 5-13 MEC) at CCAC-Allegheny on Wednesday night. The Falcons led by seven at halftime and extended their advantage in the second half, fueled by a 43-24 rebounding advantage and 40 points in the paint.
Fairmont State opened the first half with strong offensive play, scoring 24 points in the paint and benefiting from 10 points off the bench. The team capitalized on nine assists and five offensive rebounds, maintaining control of the boards with a total of 22 rebounds compared to the Pioneers' 11.
Despite four ties and one lead change, the Falcons managed to pull ahead midway through the half with a series of successful inside plays. They closed the half effectively, outscoring Point Park and securing a 37–30 lead at the end of the first half.
Fairmont State began the second half by building momentum with a basket from
Rene Diop, extending their lead early. The team capitalized on offensive rebounds and fast breaks, with
Drey Carter adding significantly to the scoring through layups and free throws. Fairmont State's defense also made an impact, with Carter and
Miguel Martinez contributing with blocks and steals, respectively.
The visitors maintained control by hitting several 3-pointers, including contributions from
David Jolinder and Martinez, further widening the gap. The Falcons finished the half strong, closing with a 38–32 advantage for the period, maintaining a solid lead with a total score of 77–62 at the end of the half.
Rene Diop led the Falcons with 21 points, converting 10 of 13 field goal attempts, and collected 10 rebounds. Carter added 16 points and nine rebounds. Martinez scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and contributed nine rebounds.
Fairmont State returns home for the final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday, February 21 against Salem University. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
