MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Fairmont State (2-3) secured a 14-10 victory over Lock Haven (1-4) on Friday at Dale Miller Field. Fairmont State exploded for six runs in the fifth inning, contributing to its 17-hit performance.
Fairmont State opened the game by capitalizing on an error, allowing
Cam Cole to reach base and later score on a sacrifice fly by
Cameron Moore, giving it a 1-0 lead over Lock Haven after the first inning.
In the second inning,
Reilly Bubb singled and stole second, setting up
Caleb Cottle and Cole to drive in runs. Fairmont State extended its lead to 3-0 by the end of the inning.
Lock Haven responded in the fourth inning. A double by Nick Negola brought in two runs, narrowing Fairmont State's lead to 3-2.
The fifth inning saw a flurry of activity. Lock Haven tied the game with a two-run homer by Zachary McEllroy. Fairmont State answered back with six runs.
Bryont Green scored on an error, and Hughes, Cottle, and
Kris Sutton each contributed RBI hits. Fairmont State led 9-4 at the close of the inning.
Lock Haven rallied in the sixth with six runs, including a two-RBI triple by Jackson Bower, tying the game at 9-9. The Bald Eagles took the lead with an RBI groundball but Fairmont State quickly tied the game with
Maddox Johnston's leadoff homer.
The seventh inning sealed the win for the Falcons. Cottle doubled in two runs and
Drew Emrich added a two-RBI single, bringing the score to 14-10.
The Falcons held the Bald Eagles scoreless in the final two innings, securing a 14-10 victory.
Micah Canterbur pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 batters and walking 1.
Isaac Van Meter provided stability in relief, pitching 4 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, striking out 3, and earning the win.
Bubb posted a strong performance with three hits and three runs scored. Johnston recorded a home run among his two hits, also scoring three runs. Cottle contributed significantly with three hits, including a double, while driving in four runs. Hughes went a perfect 4-4 while scoring three runs.
Fairmont State will face Shepherd University on Saturday, February 28 from Dale Miller Field. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m.
