Green's Three-Run Homer Lifts Falcons over Lake Erie

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Fairmont State University (3-4) secured a 10-8 victory over Lake Erie College (1-9) on Sunday at Dale Miller Field. The game featured a standout performance from the Falcons' lineup, which drew nine walks and capitalized on three Storm errors.

Fairmont State took an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs. Kris Sutton singled through the left side, and Bryont Green walked, setting the stage for TJ Hughes. Hughes singled and advanced to second on a throwing error, allowing Sutton to score. Green then scored on a wild pitch, and Reilly Bubb's walk led to another run scoring on a throwing error. The inning concluded with the Falcons leading 3-0.

In the second inning, Lake Erie cut the lead to 3-2 with a two-run single by Hunter Aurand. Fairmont State responded with three more runs in their half, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Hughes after Cameron Moore doubled earlier in the inning. At the end of the second, the Falcons had a 6-2 advantage.

The fourth inning saw the Storm score another run on an RBI single by D. Roberts, reducing the deficit to 6-3. The score remained unchanged through the fifth inning, as neither team managed to score.

In the sixth inning, Lake Erie tied the game at 6-6 with three runs, including an RBI double by Koden Bechtel and a run scoring on a balk. Fairmont State regained the lead with Green's three-run homer, pushing the score to 9-6.

The Storm added two more runs in the seventh inning, narrowing the Falcons' lead to 9-8.

Fairmont State added an insurance run in the eighth inning as Cam Cole walked and eventually scored on a double play. The inning ended with the Falcons ahead 10-8.

Lake Erie was unable to score in the ninth inning, securing a 10-8 victory for the Falcons.

Dylan Travinski started for Fairmont State, pitching 5 innings and allowing 5 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out 3 batters and issuing 3 walks. Logan Keepers followed, pitching 1 2/3 innings, and gave up 6 hits and 3 earned runs, with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. Cameron Gonzalez closed out the game with 2 1/3 innings, yielding just 1 hit and no runs, striking out 2 and securing a save.

Green contributed significantly with four RBIs, two hits, and a home run, while also scoring three runs. Cole crossed the plate three times, drew three walks, and successfully stole a base. Sutton added two runs and secured a hit along with two walks. Hughes drove in two runs with a double, collecting two hits in total.

Fairmont State hits the road for the first time this season on Friday, March 6 as it starts a series with Kentucky Wesleyan College. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. EST.
