INDIANA, Pa. — Fairmont State women's Tennis (7-4) was defeated by Indiana University of Pa. (8-6) with a final score of 6-1 on Friday at the Maple Street Courts.
IUP claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Maria Moskaltsova and Annemiek Sterk secured a 7-6(6) win over the Falcons'
Hope Backx and
Lara Smith at No. 1 doubles, while Charliz Tabili and Isa Oikaw Torres won 6-1 against
Alara Akgul and
Laura Maciel at No. 3 doubles. The Falcons notched a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles with
Maria Fonseca and
Stephanie Gopar defeating Hannah Beitat and Asel Calbay.
In singles, IUP Women's Tennis extended its lead at No. 1 singles where Lea von Kozierowski defeated Fonseca 6-1, 7-6(4). Maria Moskaltsova added another point at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Backx. Fairmont State's only singles success came from Gopar, who won 6-2, 6-3 over Tabili at No. 3 singles.
Ifigeneia Kafka ensured the decision for IUP Women's Tennis with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Smith at No. 4 singles. Additional points for IUP came from Hannah Beitat at No. 5 singles, who won 6-4, 6-1 against Maciel, and Isa Oikaw Torres, who completed the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Akgul at No. 6 singles, leading to a final dual score of 6-1 in favor of IUP.
Fairmont State remains on the road on Sunday, March 29 against Slippery Rock University. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
