FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The fourth-ranked Fairmont State University acrobatics & tumbling team faced the seventh-ranked Gannon Golden Knights on Senior Day. After a tightly contested meet, the Falcons were able to pull off the win, 271.145-267.550.
The afternoon got started in the Compulsory Event with Fairmont State taking the early lead, 37.950-37.550. In the toss heat, the team earned a score of 9.850.
In the Acro Event, Gannon narrowly out scored the Falcons, 29.000-28.850. The Falcons' best score came in the 7-element heat as
Taryn Laurence,
Alexa Wilson,
Elizabeth Maurer and
Alexis Wilkinson posted a score of 9.850.
The Pyramid Event was another tightly contested event as Fairmont State scored a 29.650 with Gannon finishing with a 29.450. FSU earned a 9.900 in both the inversion and open heats. At the half, the Falcons held a .450 advantage over the Golden Knights (96.450-96.000).
After halftime, Gannon came back with a 29.000 in the Toss Event while Fairmont State finished with a 28.550. The home team's open heat earned a score of 9.750.
With the meet timed at 125.000, the two teams turned their attention to the Tumbling Heat. The Falcons narrowly outscored the Golden Knights, 54.575-54.550.
Zoe Ringwald's pass was judged to a 9.900 while
Taryn Laurence earned a score of 9.825.
As the two teams were separated by .025, the meet came down to the Team Event. Gannon went first an posted a score of 88.000. Fairmont State then took the mat and performed to a score of 91.570 to secure the victory.
Fairmont State (7-0) wraps up the regular season on Friday, April 3 for a tri-meet against Frostburg State University and Wheeling University. Start time from Frostburg, Maryland is set for 6:00 p.m.
