MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Fairmont State University (13-12) fell to Slippery Rock University (15-9) with a final score of 13-5 on Tuesday at Dale Miller Field.
Fairmont State struck first in the second inning, scoring two runs.
Micah Canterbury doubled to left center, and
Caleb Cottle walked to put runners on base.
Gunner Riley singled to center field, advancing the runners, and
Reilly Bubb's double down the left-field line brought Canterbury and Cottle home. This gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Fairmont State added another run. After Cottle singled to right field,
Drew Emrich scored, extending the lead to 3-0.
The fourth inning saw Slippery Rock answer back with four runs. A two-RBI single by and a two-RBI double put Slippery Rock ahead 4-3.
Slippery Rock tacked on another run in the fifth as Fairmont State cut the deficit in half when
Cameron Moore tripled. Emrich then groundout to bring Moore to make it a 5-4 game.
In the sixth inning, Slippery Rock extended its lead with a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer. The Falcons added one more run, with an RBI single by
TJ Hughes bringing Bubb home.
Slippery Rock continued its offensive surge in the seventh and eighth innings, adding two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth, creating a sizable 13-5 advantage.
The Falcons were unable to add any more runs as it fell by the score of 13-5.
Reilly Bubb led the offense by recording two hits, including a double, and driving in two runs. Hughes contributed with an RBI and a hit while Moore added a triple and scored a run. Emrich recorded an RBI and a hit.
Fairmont State starts a four-game series against Point Park University on Friday, April 3. The opening doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 p.m. from Green Tree Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
