FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State University men's basketball team opens the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Friday, March 6.

Fairmont State, seeded second in the tournament, will face the seventh-seeded Frostburg State University Bobcats in the first game of the MEC Quarterfinals.
The Falcons enter the game with a record of 24-4, finishing the conference regular season with a record of 17-3. The team landed three on the all-conference lists with
Drey Carter (First Team),
David Jolinder (Second Team) and
Rene Diop (Second Team). On the year, the team has averaged 91.1 points, 39.8 rebounds and 8.9 steals per game.
Frostburg State, who defeated West Virginia State in the first round 93-85, comes in with a record of 15-14, 10-10 in MEC play. The team is led by Trey Simmons who was named the MEC Player of the Year and First Team-All MEC while teammate DJ Daniel was named All-MEC Second Team. Going into the matchup, the Bobcats average 91.6 points, 37.0 rebounds and 14.4 assists per game.
During season play, Fairmont State swept the regular season series. In the first meeting on January 24, the Falcons claimed a 101-84 victory.
Tyheil Peterson and
Miguel Martinez led the team with 21 points each. In the game, six different Falcons finished in double digits.
The two teams later met in the regular season finale with Fairmont State winning by 14 points, 92-78.
Drey Carter finished the game with a double-double, scoring 27 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Peterson (16), Diop (13), Martinez (12) and
Zycheus Dobbs (11) scored double-digit points.
Fans planning to attend the game should allow for more travel time as there will be construction on both I-70 East and Westbound from milepost 7.0 (Middle Creek Bridge), to milepost 14.5 (Pennsylvania state line).
