EMORY, Va. — Fairmont State University (8-4) faced a challenging doubleheader against Emory & Henry University (11-7) on Saturday, suffering an 8-3 defeat in the first game followed by a 16-2 loss in game two.
Game 1: Emory & Henry 8, Fairmont State 3
In game one, Fairmont State fell behind early as Emory & Henry took a commanding lead in the first inning with a three-run homer by Sawyer Tolley, ending the inning at 3-0 in favor of the Wasps. The Falcons managed only a single hit in the second inning, while the Wasps extended their lead to 5-0 with two more runs from a series of singles and fielder's choices.
Breonna Marietta got the Falcons on the board in the fifth inning with a solo home run, but Emory & Henry quickly responded with a homer from Tristyn Tofano, maintaining a 6-1 advantage. The Wasps capitalized on walks and a single in the sixth inning to score two more runs, bringing the score to 8-1. In the seventh,
Jaylin McGill hit a two-run homer for Fairmont State, but the Falcons ultimately fell short, concluding the game at 8-3.
Breonna Marietta led the offensive effort in game one, hitting a home run and a double while tallying two hits and scoring once.

Game 2: Emory & Henry 16, Fairmont State 2 (5 Inn.)
In game two, Fairmont State struggled against the Wasps, who took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a homer by Hannah Booth that brought in Laila Rodriguez. The Wasps then exploded for five more runs in the second inning, featuring three run-producing hits and ending the inning at 7-0.
The Falcons responded in the third inning with two runs;
Jaylin McGill launched a solo home run, followed by Abbie Keilhoz, who also hit a solo shot. However, Emory & Henry countered with four additional runs on three home runs, leaving the score at 11-2 after three innings. The Wasps continued their dominance in the fourth inning, adding five more runs to conclude the game at 16-2, with Fairmont State leaving three runners on base in the final inning.
In game two, McGill posted two hits, including a home run, and collected one RBI.
Bella Hess contributed with a double and reached base on two walks, while Keilhoz also went deep, recording a home run and an RBI in her only at-bat.
Fairmont State (8-4) now heads to Tennessee to face King University on Monday, March 9. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
