WASHINGTON, Pa. — Fairmont State (16-24) came up short in a closely contested matchup, falling 4–3 to California (PA) (24-15) at EQT Park on Tuesday.
Fairmont State and California were locked in a scoreless battle through the first seven innings, with both teams unable to break through. In the eighth inning, the Falcons' offense came alive as
Bryont Green delivered a three-run homer to right field, driving in
Cameron Moore and
Adam Loucks. This surge put Fairmont State ahead 3–0. The Vulcans responded in their half with a run-scoring double by Carney, closing the gap to 3–1 through eight innings.
In the final inning, Fairmont State was unable to add to their lead. California seized the momentum in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded, the Vulcans hits a triple to left center, clearing the bases and securing the 4-3 victory.
Logan Keepers delivered an impressive performance, pitching 7 1/3 innings while allowing only two hits and one earned run. He struck out seven batters and issued just one walk over 77 pitches, with 55 of them being strikes.
Bryont Green recorded three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs in the game.
Adam Loucks added a hit and scored a run.
Cameron Moore scored a run and drew a walk.
Fairmont State remains on the road for an MEC doubleheader on Saturday, April 25 at West Liberty University. Game one is slated for 1:00 p.m.
