AZUSA, Calif. – The Fairmont State University acrobatics and tumbling team faced the fifth-seeded Augustana Vikings in the quarterfinals of the 2026 NCATA National Championships. Leading most of the way, the Falcons defeated the Vikings, 254.950-250.800.
The evening got started in the Compulsory Event. Fairmont State took the initial lead with a 35.800 compared to 35.175 for Augustana. The pyramid and toss heats were the best performing for the Falcons with scores of 9.650 and 9.600, respectively.
As the meet moved to the Acro Event, the Falcons slightly extended their lead with a 27.850 to a 27.750. The team's 7-element heat posted a score of 9.575 with a start value of 10.
Fairmont State carried the momentum into the final event of the first half, the Pyramid Event. The Falcons posted a three-heat total of 29.075, just edging out the Vikings by .175. The open pyramid heat was the highest scoring of the event with a 9.825 for FSU. At the half, Fairmont State led 92.725 to 91.825.
The Toss Event awaited the two teams after halftime. In the event, the Falcons scored 27.925 while the Vikings posted a 26.900. Fairmont State outscored Augustana in two of the three heats as the Falcons' 450 Salto Toss was judged to be a 9.475.
In the Tumbling Event, the Vikings got the slight upper hand with a 52.625 as the Falcons earned a total of 52.500. The Falcons scored 9.700 in the aerial pass and a 9.600 in the open pass. Going into the Team Event, Fairmont State still held a 173.150-171.350 advantage.
The Team Event wrapped up the evening as the Vikings went first and posted a 79.450. The bar was set for the Falcons and they did not disappoint with an 81.800, clinching the victory by 4.150.
Fairmont State will now face Baylor University in the semifinals on Friday, April 24. The meet will start at 10:00 p.m. EDT / 7:00 p.m. PDT.
