AZUSA, Calif. – The Fairmont State University acrobatics & tumbling team battled to the defending national champion, Baylor University in the NCATA Semifinals. The Falcons fell to the number one Bears, 267.385-245.820.
In the first event of the evening, the Compulsory Event, Baylor scored a 37.300 with Fairmont State earning a 34.325. In the pyramid heat, the Falcons earned a 9.425.
The Acro Event was next for both teams as the Bears posted a 29.675 as the Falcons were judged to a 27.400. The group of
Taryn Laurence,
Alexa Wilson,
Elizabeth Maurer and
Alexis Wilkinson combined for 9.550 in the 7-element heat.
In the final event of the first half, the Pyramid Event, Baylor scored 29.625 as Fairmont State totaled 28.675. The open pyramid of Laurence,
Caitlyn Clendenin, Wilson, Wilkinson,
Kaylee Rehak and
Jessi Wolf received a score of 9.775.
Coming out of halftime, the Toss Event was next for both teams. Baylor scored 28.725 with Fairmont State scoring 27.225. The open toss heat earned 9.225 as
Azia Shaffer,
Cali Way,
Ava Nagata,
Kassidy Price,
Alexa Wilson and
Kaylee Rehak represented the Falcons on the mat.
In the Tumbling Event, the Bears' six-heat score was 56.000 with the Falcons' earning a score of 52.425. Laurence's aerial pass was judged to a 9.825 while
Zoe Ringwald posted a 9.725 in the 6-element.
The final event of the night was the Team Event. The Falcons took the mat first and earned a score of 75.770. The Bears then followed with an 86.060 to secure the win.
Fairmont State finishes the season with a 12-1 record. The team awaits now to see if they have any qualifiers for the Event Finals which occurs on Sunday, April 26. The event is set to start at 1:00 p.m. EDT / 10:00 a.m. PDT.
