Baseball Falls Short in Thrilling Game With Clarion

DUBOIS, Pa. — Fairmont State University (14-16) fell to Clarion University (14-14) in a dramatic 18-17 loss at Showers Field on Wednesday.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the first inning when Cam Cole scored on an error after reaching third base, putting the team ahead 1-0.

In the second inning, Brayden Hampton homered to extend the lead. However, the Golden Eagles responded with a six-run inning to take a 6-2 lead.

The Falcons added another run in the third inning with TJ Hughes driving in a run, narrowing the deficit to 6-3.

In the sixth inning, the Falcons staged a comeback, scoring eight runs. Cameron Moore's grand slam was the highlight, giving the team an 11-8 lead.

The Falcons added three more runs in the seventh, with Reilly Bubb and Bryont Green each contributing RBIs to extend the lead to 14-10.

In the eighth, Bubb hit a three-run homer, further extending the Falcons' lead to 17-11.

The Golden Eagles mounted a significant comeback in the bottom of the ninth, scoring seven runs to secure an 18-17 victory over the Falcons.

Bubb led the Falcons with three hits, including a home run, while driving in four runs and scoring three times. Moore contributed with a two-run home run and finished the game with four RBIs. Maddox Johnston added three hits and drove in two runs. Hampton scored twice and hit a solo home run.

Fairmont State's next opponent will be Salem University starting on Saturday, April 11 at Frank Loria Field in Nutter Fort, West Virginia. Game one is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
