SALEM, Va. — Fairmont State University (37-11) secured a 5-2 victory over Glenville State University (40-14) on Thursday at the Moyer Sports Complex. Fairmont State capitalized early with three runs in the first inning and maintained their lead, backed by solid pitching that limited Glenville State to four hits.
In the first inning,
Bella Hess singled up the middle, followed by a bunt single by
Avery Townsend.
Emma Paul then singled to load the bases.
Breonna Marietta delivered a pivotal double to left center, bringing in Hess and Townsend. Paul later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Alexa Foresha, giving Fairmont State a 3-0 lead after one inning.
In the third inning, Marietta extended the lead with a solo home run to right center, pushing the score to 4-0.
Glenville State responded in the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Delany Warnick, narrowing the gap to 4-2.
However, Fairmont State quickly countered in the bottom half. Foresha doubled down the left-field line and, after a sacrifice, pinch runner
Gabi Ramm scored on a single by Abbie Keilhoz, making it 5-2.
The Falcons maintained their lead through the final inning, securing the win with a final score of 5-2.
Delaney Haller pitched a complete game for Fairmont State, allowing four hits and two earned runs over seven innings. She struck out four batters while issuing only one walk and hitting one batter.
Breonna Marietta led the team with a home run, a double, and three RBIs in the game. Abbie Keilhoz contributed with two hits and drove in one run. Foresha added a double and an RBI to the team's efforts.
Fairmont State remains in the winner's side of the MEC Tournament and will face the University of Charleston on Friday, May 8. The game will start at 12:00 p.m. from Field 1 of the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
