FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The 16th ranked Fairmont State women's soccer team (4-0-1, 2-0-1) and Frostburg State (3-1-1, 2-0-1) played to a 0-0 tie on Sunday at Duvall-Rosier Field. The Falcons finished with nine saves and put six of their 14 shots on goal, while the Bobcats totaled 21 shots and nine shots on goal.
The Falcons absorbed a Bobcats push in the first half, with
Olivia Johnston making five saves in the opening 13 minutes as the Falcons kept the match scoreless through 12 Bobcats attacking actions. Earlier in that stretch, the Falcons also created their first chances, earning a corner at 5:06 before
Agnes Bjork put a shot on goal that was saved.
The Falcons generated more looks as the half settled in, including another Bjork shot on target, a
Sam Yuen attempt wide and a
Serenity Thomas shot off the right woodwork in the 27th minute. The Falcons added later shots on goal from
Lyndy Van Horn and
Dayra Dinarte, while Johnston made one more save in the final seconds to send the match into halftime tied 0-0.
The Falcons created their busiest attacking stretch late in the second half, taking five shots from 81:46 to 86:10 while the match remained scoreless. Earlier,
Valentina Gianinetto sent a shot over the frame in the 47th minute, Johnston made a save on Madison Hinton in the 60th and
Arrington Sparks forced Mia Graff into a save in the 69th.
Yuen took three shots in less than 90 seconds during the late push, and Thomas put an attempt on target in the 86th minute before
Colletta Hardman sent a shot wide. Johnston also stopped Ana Davis at 85:14 and Mollie Rebuck at 86:25 as the Falcons navigated the Bobcats' late pressure, and the half ended without a goal as the match finished 0-0.
Johnston recorded nine saves in 90 minutes and finished with a shutout. Yuen led the Falcons with four shots. Bjork added three shots and put two on goal.
Fairmont State welcomes Point Park University to Duvall-Rosier Field on Wednesday, September 16 for a conference tilt. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
