Before Fairmont State
- Played linebacker for head coach Jarrod Hickman at Florida High in Tallahassee
- Recorded 93 tackles to help lead his team to a second-place finish in the district as a junior
- Tallied 100 tackles (63 solo), 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception as a senior
- Received the Florida High Seminole Award as a junior
- Also received player of the week honors twice and played in the Georgia/Florida Boarder Wars All-Star Game
- Won a district weightlifting championship in the 183 class as a junior
