Kris Sanchez joined Phil Caruso’s baseball staff at Fairmont State during the fall of 2018. Sanchez will serve as Assistant Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Falcons. He will also work extensively with hitters and infielders.
Sanchez was a standout baseball player for the University of Hawaii at Manoa before beginning a professional baseball career that stretched from June 2007 to September 2012.
"We are delighted to have a person with Kris' experience and credentials join our program at Fairmont State," said head coach Phil Caruso. "Kris is a proven leader and will provide valuable baseball knowledge as a hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for the program."
A Tucson, Arizona native, Sanchez is a product of the prestigious Canyon Del Oro High School program. During his three-year letterwinning career, he won two state championships and was named first team All-State twice.
After finishing an impressive collegiate career at the University of Hawaii, he signed a professional contract with the Seattle Mariners. Throughout his six-year professional career, he played in 439 games, amassing a career .268 batting average while clubbing 70 home runs and driving in 295 runs. He was named to the 2009 Mid-West League All-Star Team.
Sanchez made four stops during his professional career, including the Seattle Mariners organization (June 2007-April 2010), the Sussex Skyhawks (April 2010-Nov. 2010), the New Jersey Jackals (Nov. 2010-March 2012), and the Sioux City Explorers (March 2012-Sept. 2012).
During Sanchez’s professional career, he was managed for two seasons by Ed Ott, a catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates 1979 World Series team.
During the past few years, Sanchez has worked at ProPerformance in Morgantown, giving hitting and fielding lessons to area youth and teens. Sanchez has also worked as a Consultant Trainer/Dealer at Pulse 4 Life since Oct. 2012.
Sanchez earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business and Finance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in December 2008. Sanchez earned second team All-WAC postseason honors in 2007 after hitting .362 with 10 home runs and 66 runs batted-in. He also earned academic honors from the Western Athletic Conference in 2007.
Sanchez is the proud father of two children, Isabella and Kasen.
