Robert Barrett joined Phil Caruso’s staff at Fairmont State during the summer of 2017 and will serve as hitting coach for the Falcons. Barrett has served as an Associate Scout for the Chicago Cubs since 2014.
Prior to joining the FSU baseball staff, Barrett served as an assistant coach at Fairmont Senior High School in 2014 and was the head baseball coach at East Fairmont High School from 2010-13.
Barrett has also served as an assistant coach for the WV North/South Baseball Classic.
Barrett graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1989, where he was a three-time All-State selection. While at BHS, he garnered several awards, including two-time Big 10 Player of the Year, Harrison County Player of the Year and was a finalist for the West Virginia State Player of the Year award.
After graduating from Bridgeport High School, Barrett continued his baseball career playing for Marshall University under coach Howard McCann and Craig Antush.
Barrett has served as an instructor for Marshall University, the University of Kentucky, Union College, Morehead State, Youngstown State and West Virginia University.
He has also been an instructor for the U.S. Baseball Academy and a showcase evaluator for the Prep Baseball Report, while also serving as a private hitting instructor since 2000. Barrett has also hosted baseball clinics with MLB pitcher David Carpenter.
Barrett has also served as a guest speaker for several organizations during his career, notably the McDonald's McKids Baseball Clinic.
Barrett incorporates many baseball philosophies from former TCU, Union and Coker College Hall of Fame coach Dave Schmotzer.
Barrett and his wife Lori have two daughters, Olivia and Aubrey.
