Brian Miller enters his fourth season as Offensive Line Coach at Fairmont State after joining the program during the spring of 2018. Miller brought over 24 years of college football coaching experience to the Fairmont State sideline when he joined the staff.
The Fairmont State offensive line continued to impress during the 2019 season as the unit paved the way for the 20th-best rushing attack in the country. The FSU offense also ranked 18th in scoring offense, 13th in total offense and 36th in passing offense during 2019. In addition, the offensive line anchored an offense that ranked 17th in the country in time of possession and allowed just 19 sacks on the season.
Four members of the Fairmont State offensive line earned postseason honors following the 2019 season, including first team All-MEC selection Chandler Zavala. Garrett Kapstein-O'Brien and Lonnell McGuire were each second team All-MEC picks, and Zach Cox rounded out the all-conference honors with MEC honorable mention accolades. Zavala also earned All-Super Region 1 honors for the second-straight year.
The 2019 Fairmont State offensive front paved the way for three backs that rushing for 100 yards in a game during the season, and Tyree Randolph went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season.
In 2018, Miller helped develop one of the top offensive lines in Division II football as four of Fairmont State's five starters earned All-Mountain East Conference honors, including first team selections Zach Cox and Chandler Zavala, and second team selections Garrett Kapstein-O'Brien and Lonnell McGuire.
Starting left guard Chandler Zavala also earned honorable mention All-American honors from the Don Hansen Gazette following the 2018 season. Zavala was the first offensive lineman to earn All-America honors for Fairmont State since offensive tackle Jim Young in 1994.
Miller helped develop a unit that paved the way for the 23rd best rushing attack in the country (222.9) during the 2018 season. Fairmont State also had its first 1,000-yard rusher since the 2007 season, and three different Fairmont State running backs totaled more than 350 yard and five TDs on the ground.
The Fairmont State offense averaged 39.4 points per game, which ranked 14th in the country, and the Fairmont State offensive line allowed just eight sacks during the 2018 season.
During the 2017 season, Miller served as an offensive analyst at Missouri, working specifically with tight ends and quarterbacks during team meetings and practices. Miller was also heavily involved with recruiting at the UM. During 2017, the Tigers led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in scoring offense and total offense.

Prior to Missouri, Miller spent six seasons as Offensive Line Coach, Run Game Coordinator and Team Travel Coordinator at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. While at GU, Miller coached four All-Patriot League offensive line and two all-conference running backs. His offensive line at Georgetown allowed the second fewest sacks in the league during his tenure.

Miller made his first stop in NCAA Division I as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at the University of Kansas during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Miller helped develop two All-Big 12 offensive linemen while at Kansas and was also a member of one of the greatest comebacks in college football history, as KU erased a 28-point, fourth-quarter deficit against Colorado in 2010.

Prior to his time at Kansas, Miller served as offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and academic coordinator at Washburn University from 2002 to 2009. While at Washburn, the offense averaged over 40 points per game during the 2009 season – ranking fourth in the country. In all, Miller’s offenses produced the top four offensive seasons in school history and set 20 school records on the offensive side of the ball.

Prior to eight seasons at WU, Miller served as Associate Head Football Coach and Offensive Coordinator at the University of Minnesota, Crookston from 1997 to 2002. Miller also coaches quarterbacks, wide receivers and served as Recruiting Coordinator while at Minnesota-Crookston. During his six seasons at UMC, Miller’s offense set 17 team and individual records on the offensive side of the ball. Miller also coaches two all-conference quarterbacks and wide receivers during his tenure.

Miller also spent time at Northern State University (1995-97) and St. Cloud State University (1994-95) early in his coaching career.

Miller earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business Administration from Hastings College in 1989. He graduated with a Master’s of Science in Athletic Administration from St. Cloud State in 1996.

In addition to his success as a football coach, Miller has also served as an Assistant Professor and Instructor at Minnesota-Crookston, Northern State and St. Cloud State.
