Greg Richmond

Greg Richmond returns for his third season as defensive line coach for the Fairmont State football team in 2017. Richmond is also in his second season as Director of Player Development at FSU.

Richmond has developed the FSU defensive front into one of the top units in NCAA Division II as junior defensive end Quincy Redmon put together one of the most decorated season for a defensive lineman at FSU during the 2016 season. Redmon earned honorable mention All-America honors and was named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Year after racking up 52 tackles, 12 sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles as a junior. For his efforts, Redmon was also a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award (honoring the top defensive player in small college football).

Redmon became the first All-American defensive lineman at Fairmont State since David Hill in 2008.

In addition to Redmon’s standout year, Josh Ballard earned MEC honorable mention after chipping in seven sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss for the FSU defensive front. Dalton Inman (3.5), Abu Kai Kai (3), and D.J. Adediwura (2) also provided pressure on opposing quarterbacks during the 2016 season.

As a unit, Richmond’s defensive line ranked second in the league and 22nd in country in sacks during the 2016 season – averaging over three sacks per game (3.08). The FSU defense also locked down on opposing rushing attacks, as the Falcons allowed just 95.5 yards per game on the ground and gave up just 15.1 points per game during the regular season.

Richmond’s presence on the FSU staff was noticed quickly as the former Oklahoma State University standout helped develop defensive end Quincy Redmon into an All-MEC second team selection after finishing in the top five in the league with 14.5 tackles for loss as a sophomore in 2015.

Richmond was a standout on the defensive line at Oklahoma State University from 1999-03, earning first team All-Big 12 honors as a senior. He also left his mark on the OSU record book, currently ranking fourth in school history with 21.5 career sacks.

Following his standout career with the Cowboys, Richmond signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in August 2004 and remained with the organization until 2007.

Richmond began his coaching career in 2007 as the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning at his alma mater. In July 2010, Richmond coached the defensive line at OKC Douglass High School before being hired as the defensive line coach at Northeastern State University in August 2010. He helped lead NESU to a Lone Star North Conference Championship in 2010 and the Mineral Water Bowl in 2011.

During the summer of 2011, Richmond worked for the Minnesota Vikings as a minority coaching intern, assisting on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, Richmond was the defensive line coach at Tahlequah High School and he spent the spring of 2015 at Northeastern State University, coaching the defensive line and assisting with strength & conditioning.

Richmond earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Oklahoma State in December 2003 before attending Langston University in 2012 to earn his master’s degree.

Richmond and his wife Jennifer currently reside in Fairmont, with their son, Jaylen.
