Kal-El Statham enters his first season here at Fairmont State and will be the Falcon’s Defensive Run Game Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach.
Coach Statham comes to Fairmont State after coaching the defensive line this past year at Stevenson University. While at Stevenson, Statham defensive line was a vital part of a defense that only allowed 18.91 points a game, accumulated 31 sacks, and only allowed 113.9 yards per game rushing. Coach Statham coached Daniel Johnson to 1st Team All MAC and 3rd Team All Region honors. Daniel Johnson had 55 total tackles, 13 TFL’S, and 6 sacks on the year.
Before Stevenson, Coach Statham was a defensive quality control at Towson where he worked primarily with the secondary.
Coach Statham began his career as an Assistant Director of Equipment at Howard University. After one spring at Howard University, Statham became the defensive coordinator at High Point High School in Beltsville, MD in the fall of 2021. After the 2021 season, Statham was elevated to Head Coach for the 2022 season. At the time, he was the youngest head high school football coach in the state of Maryland.
The Philadelphia native started his playing career at Florida Atlantic University and started as a true freshman. He finished his career at the University of Charleston where he played inside linebacker. During his senior year, Statham recorded 74 total tackles, 13 TFL’S, and 2.5 sacks.
Statham has an associate degree from Feather River College in Social Behavior and bachelor’s degree in general studies from the University of Charleston.
Statham, and his wife Simone, have a son, Cinco Statham.
