Quincy Wilson returns to West Virginia and begins his first season as the Running Backs Coach & Recruiting Coordinator for Fairmont State in 2023. Wilson was previously the Head Football Coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale. Wilson played in the National Football League for four seasons with both the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals and was a running back at West Virginia University.
Before his time in Florida, Wilson spent five seasons as the Associate Head Coach & Running Backs Coach at West Virginia State University. In his first season at WVSU, Wilson coached 2017 MEC Freshman of the Year Khalil Watkins. Two other running backs earned all-conference honors under Wilson's coaching. In 2019, Yellow Jacket tailback Dante Jones collected Third-Team All-America accolades. Jones scored eight touchdowns and averaged 4.7 yards/carry during the 2019 campaign. Jones won First Team All-MEC recognition in 2019 and 2021.
Wilson served as the Running Backs/Run Game Coordinator at Glenville State during the 2016 season. The Pioneers totaled over 2,000 yards on the ground during the 2016 season and Wilson coached All-MEC Second Team selection Eric Kyle. Wilson served as the Assistant Director of Football Operations at his alma mater, West Virginia University, from 2012-2016. Wilson was responsible for the organization and management of student-athlete eligibility, special events and team travel.
The Weirton, W.Va. native played collegiately at West Virginia University and was a running back for the Mountaineers from 1999-2003. He started for WVU at tailback and had several outstanding performances, including "The Play" versus No. 2-ranked Miami Hurricanes in 2003. He received Third-Team Associated Press All-America honors and First Team All-Big East his senior season after rushing for 1,380 yards and 12 touchdowns. His rushing yardage ranked 12th in the country his senior season. Wilson was named WVU's offensive most valuable player and recieved the WVU Ira Rodgers Award for all-around excellence. In 44 games at West Virginia, Wilson totaled 474 rushing attempts, 2,608 yards and 20 TDs on the ground. He racked up 25 receptions for 147 yards and one receiving touchdown. His rushing attempts and yards both rank fifth in WVU Football history.
After his career at WVU, Wilson was selected in the seventh round (219th) of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in December of 2004 and made his NFL debut in 2006 for the Bengals. He was on an NFL roster from 2004-2008.
Wilson graduated from Weir High School and became the first player in West Virginia history to eclipse 3,000 rushing yards in a single season after finishing with 3,262 yards. Wilson led Weir to a 14-0 record and a Class AA State Championship title. He was a USA Today honorable mention All-American and totaled 47 touchdowns his senior season.
Wilson's father, Otis Wilson, was a linebacker in the NFL and played nine seasons for the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams. Otis was a member of the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears and was named Second-team All-Pro.
