Quindell Dean enters his second season as Defensive Backs Coach and first as Special Teams Coordinator at Fairmont State.
In his first season at Fairmont State, Dean helped four defensive backs earn All-MEC honors as the unit ranked 11th in the country in interceptions (18) and 18th in passing yards allowed (164.5).
Junior safety Stephen Turner and sophomore cornerback Michael Porter were each first team all-conference selections and garnered honorable mention All-America honors from the Don Hansen Gazette following the season. Cornerback Demonne Cox and safety Naiquan Thomas also earned MEC honorable mention following the 2017 season.
Dean joined the Fairmont State football staff in the summer of 2017 after serving as a graduate assistant at Slippery Rock University in 2015 and 2016. Dean, a 2013 graduate of Slippery Rock University and former standout linebacker during his playing career, served as Defensive Backs and Special Teams Coach in 2016 for The Rock. In his first season at SRU, Dean was in charge of cornerbacks and special teams.
Dean spent the spring of 2017 as a safeties and special teams assistant at Seton Hill University before joining the staff at Fairmont State during the summer.
The SRU defense ranked in the top 15 in the country in eight different categories during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Dean also coached a pair of all-conference defensive backs while at SRU, including All-American standout Titus Howard, who left following his junior season and is currently bouncing around NFL training camps.
Dean was a two-time All-PSAC performer during his undergraduate career at Slippery Rock, where he helped the team to two PSAC West titles and a trip to the NCAA playoffs as a senior in 2013.
Dean appeared in 44 games during his career at SRU and made 239 total tackles. He recorded 125 solo stops, 32.0 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks and three interceptions.
His best season was his senior year, when he finished second on the team in total tackles with 76, including 14.5 tackles for loss. He also picked off two passes, broke up six passes and earned All-America honors as senior. That followed a junior year in 2012 that saw him record 79 total tackles and nine pass breakups.
A native of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Dean graduated from The Rock in 2013 with a degree in criminal justice. Dean also completed his Master’s Degree in Parks and Resource Management from SRU in May 2017.
