Ryan Schleusner was promoted to Assistant Head Coach on Jason Woodman’s coaching staff at Fairmont State during the summer of 2017. Schleusner is entering his third season as Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Falcons after joining the staff in the winter of 2015.
Prior to the 2016 season, Schleusner rebuilt the FSU offensive line into one of the most consistent in the Mountain East Conference, as left tackle Rodney Carroll earned first team All-MEC honors and center Cody Wilburn garnered second team all-league accolades. Carroll becomes the first offensive lineman to be named first team All-Conference for the Falcons since Chris Barfield in 2012.
The 2016 offensive front paved the way for one of the most prolific offensive units in school history as the Falcons set single-season marks for passing first downs (154), total first downs (250), passing attempts (448), total offensive plays (858) and total offensive yards (4,690) during the season. The Falcons also ranked third in the league in sacks allowed (1.83) and cleared the way for a unit that averaged just under 30 points per game, including 267.5 yards through the air and 124.4 yards on the ground. The FSU offense also controlled the pace of the game by leading the league and ranking 39th in the country in time of possession (31:27).
In Schleusner’s first season at Fairmont State, left tackle Rodney Carroll garnered second team All-MEC honors as the Falcons finished above .500 for the first time since 2011.
Schleusner brought five years of coaching experience and was a standout offensive lineman at the University of Missouri before joining the FSU coaching staff. As a player at Missouri, Schleusner played all five positions across the offensive line during his career from 2006-09 and was a member of a pair of Big XII North Championship teams. He was also on a pair of bowl championship teams at Missouri, including the Cotton Bowl (2007) and Alamo Bowl (2008).
Schleusner came to Fairmont State after serving as the Offensive Coordinator at Miami High School for the last two seasons. His duties at MHS also included coaching the offensive line, serving as Strength Coach and Recruiting Coordinator and teaching Physical Education. In his two seasons at the school, he produced three all-conference offensive linemen and helped lead a 14.2-point scoring improvement from year one to year two.
Prior to joining the staff at Miami High School, Schleusner was the Offensive Line and Assistant Strength Coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. In his one season with the program, Schleusner coached three all-conference linemen and one All-American. The team was also ranked 10th nationally in rushing offense and 14th in scoring offense.
Schleusner started his coaching career at Northwest Missouri State from 2010-12 as a graduate assistant Offensive Line Coach and Video Coordinator. In his two seasons at NW Missouri, Schleusner coached five All-Conference, four All-Region and two All-American offensive linemen. The team also led the nation in scoring offense in 2011, averaging 51.1 points per game.
Schleusner earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Missouri in 2010. In December of 2012, he also received his Master’s of Science in Recreation from Northwest Missouri State.
Schleusner and his wife Sarah currently reside in Fairmont with their son, Pierce.
